'Rooftop Highway' Topic Of 'Public Eye'

The so-called "rooftop highway" is back in the headlines after Gov. Andrew Cuomo mentioned it in his State of the State address last month.

That's the subject of Friday night's Public Eye on WPBS, whether an entire $6 billion highway should be built from Watertown to Plattsburgh, as the Northern Corridor Transportation Group would like to see, or should improvements be made along the existing Route 11, which is what the group YESeleven is looking for.

"We need meaningful transportation improvements," said the Northern Corridor Transportation Group's Wade Davis. "The bottom line at the end of the day, federal money for this -- this would not be a state project at the end of the day, it would be a federal funded project -- the funds are going somewhere in the U.S., why not here."

"Something has to be done about the Potsdam-Canton corridor," said YESeleven representative John Danis. "It's one of the greatest economic generators in the entire region and it's also the most problematic to move around in."

Public Eye is produced by WPBS in cooperation with WWNY. It airs on WPBS at 8:30 p.m.
