Route 11 in Canton will be closed for six weeks as part of the Canton Village Reconstruction Project on or about July 1.

The New York State Department of Transportation made the announcement Wednesday.

The closure is necessary to replace the rail crossing on Route 11 and during this time motorists will be required to use a detour.

The detour begins at Riverside Drive, continues to State Street and State Route 310, and returns to Route 11.

Provisions will be made for local traffic to access the downtown business district, as well as providing access to local streets.

Message boards will be deployed in advance of the closure to alert motorists of the upcoming change in traffic patterns.
