SPCA Gets Much Needed Donation

It was an unexpected but much needed gift for the Jefferson County SPCA in Watertown.

After hearing the organization needed major upgrades, Mike and Val Cascanet of Belleville donated $1,400 to help.

The money will pay for a new machine that helps prep cats and dogs for surgery.

Officials say it's the kindness of the community that keeps the SPCA going.

"I just made mention of the fact that we needed to replace part of the equipment in our surgery, and they very generously the next morning called and made a full donation," said SPCA Executive Director Doug Marlow.

"Having this donation is huge because it allows us to go ahead and get the machine now, without having to worry about doing any special fundraising for it," said Dr. Sandy Young, a veterinarian with the SPCA.

Officials say the new machine should be in house and ready to go soon.
