SUNY Canton Gets New Interim President

The State University of New York Board of Trustees today appointed Dr. Carli Schiffner interim president of SUNY Canton.

She will take over the job on September 1.

Dr. Schiffner is currently the college's provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Current President Joseph Kennedy will retire as of August 31to take a position as special advisor to the chancellor for shared services.

As provost, Schiffner will continue to serve as Officer-in-Charge of the campus in any absence of President Kennedy prior to September 1.

Dr. Schiffner joined the SUNY Canton community in 2003 as a faculty member in the History Department.

She then served as President Kennedy's Chief of Staff.

After serving as the Dean of Arts and Science at Yakima Valley Community College from July 2007 through June 2011, Dr. Schiffner returned to Canton as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Dr. Schiffner serves on numerous boards, commissions, and committees; and has been a sought-after public speaker for 12 years.

She has also been published in at least seven different magazines or journals.

She received her BA degree in history from Gonzaga University in 1996; her Masters degree in Cultural and Intellectual History from Drew University in 1998; and her Ph.D. in American, Asian and Women's History from Washington State University in 2004.
