SUNY Potsdam & Canton Presidents Go To Albany

The presidents of both SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Canton updated the trustees on the progress of shared services between campuses to cut costs, but we still don't know whether SUNY trustees are moving toward a shared presidency or whether the two colleges will be allowed to conduct independent presidential searches.
 
That's because the discussion apparently came in a closed executive session.

While SUNY officials are recommending the two campuses continue working on an administrative realignment, there was no specific direction given on the question of separate presidents.

"The campuses' recommendation is to work for further alignment of administrations between the two campuses over the next three years and SUNY System administration supports that goal," said SUNY Provost David Lavalley.
 
Last week's surprise resignation of Potsdam President John Schwaller renewed speculation of a possible shared presidency with SUNY Canton.

Schwaller, SUNY Canton interim president Carli Schiffner and chief financial officer for both colleges Natalie Higley were asked to appear before the trustees to discuss the upcoming presidential vacancy.
 
For now, it appears the presidential waiting game continues.

SUNY Central still hasn't authorized a search for a permanent president at SUNY Canton.

There has been no indication as to whom, if anyone, may be selected as interim president at SUNY Potsdam replacing Schwaller when he leaves in July.
