SUNY Students To Protest Shared Presidency Plan

Opponents of a shared services plan between SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam are planning to demonstrate outside a state university board of trustees meeting in New York City this week.

The  campus alliance plan would require SUNY campuses to share presidents and other services. After a public outcry, SUNY trustees agreed to delay a shared presidency plan between SUNY Canton and SUNY Potsdam until March.

A busload of students and other opponents to the plan from the North Country will take part in this week's protest.

"You can't just take these actions withouit our voice," said Daynell Richards, president of the Student Cooperative Alliance.

"You can't just elimninate our president and not even talk to the students first and the college council and the community. You just can't do that. It's not right," she said.

Anyone interested in joining the demonstration can call Richards at 566-1441.
