Salvation Army's Commander Saying Goodbye To Watertown

There will be an Army change of command later this week, but it has nothing to do with Fort Drum.

It's for Watertown Salvation Army.

After seven years leading the local Salvation Army, Captain Evelyn hopping is being transferred to Oneonta.

It's a bittersweet departure for Captain Hopping, who expected to be here for only five years, but also began hoping she might retire here.

She says she arrived here in 2005 with a number of plans.

"My goal was to see what the community needed and try to meet that and it has been fairly easy to meet those goals because of the support of the community," said Hopping.

Hopping says her heart will always be in Watertown, but she knows the people here will welcome the new commanders, Lieutenant Zeb Hough  and his wife, Summer, when they take over the reins on Thursday.
