Saturday: Fire Strikes General Brown Buses

Fire at the General Brown bus garage Friday night extensively damaged two buses.

Several other buses were affected by the smoke from the fire, officials said.

The fire was spotted around 9 pm.

Jefferson County Fire and Emergency Management director Joe Plummer said firefighters had to cut through garage doors to get inside. Firefighters from several area departments were then able to extinguish the blaze quickly.

Investigators from the state have been asked to look at the fire scene, because of the magnitude of the loss.

A new school bus typically costs $90,000 to $100,000.

No one was injured.

The bus  garage is located on Cemetery Road, Dexter.
