An incident at Watertown city court Saturday morning sent one man to the hospital with head injuries.

Police say Charles Howard Jr., 46, Watertown, smashed his head into a window at Watertown city court.

The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. during an arraignment, (a court appearance), a city police sergeant told 7 News reporter Candace Dunkley.

At some point during or just after the arraignment, Howard butted his head into a glass window, injuring himself, police said. An ambulance was called and he was taken to Samaritan Medical Center.

Several police officers responded to city hall, where court is located.

Police said the man was conscious after the incident.

Howard was transported to Samaritan Medical Center and then on to the Jefferson County Jail according to police.

Howard was being arraigned for criminal contempt, first degree, and resisting arrest after police say he violated the terms of a Watertown City Court stay-away order of protection.

NewzJunky has a photo from the scene Saturday morning, showing the man on a stretcher, shirtless, being loaded into an ambulance.
