Sbarro Closing At St. Lawrence Centre In Massena

The Sbarro eatery at St. Lawrence Centre in Massena is closing Thursday.

It's part of a chain-wide closure of 155 of its locations, mostly in mall food courts where traffic has declined.

The Melville, New York-based company said 1,400 workers will be affected.

Jonathan Dedmon, a representative for Sbarro, said the targeted locations will close Thursday.

The Sbarro location at the Salmon Run Mall in Watertown will remain open, he said.

Sbarro owns 400 locations in North America.

The closures do not affect 175 Sbarro locations that are owned by franchisees.

The announcement comes after the privately held company had touted a revamped pizza recipe in 2012 in hopes of boosting sales.
