Schumer: Ogdensburg Bridge "Really Needs Help"

Tools

The Ogdensburg-Prescott International Bridge is in need of some major repairs to help stop the deterioration of the span.

The Ogdensburg Bridge & Port Authority has submitted an application seeking $2 million from the federal Department of Transportation's Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery or TIGER grant program.

The Ogdensburg bridge is among 32 bridge projects awaiting word on funding that would repair corroding girder spans and concrete anchor piers.

U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer says he is pushing for the Ogdensburg bridge to be given one of the highest priorities for the federal money.

"The secretary is aware of the need and the fact that the bridge really needs help. This is not frivolous," said Schumber (D. - NY).

Bridge & Port Authority officials say a decision on the grant application is expected in the fall.
