Search To Continue for Missing Boater

A large scale search was under way on Lake Ontario for most of the day following a boating accident Saturday morning.

The U.S. Coast Guard says a boat capsized about a half mile north of Stony Point in Henderson.

33-year-old Buck Stockman of Lowville was found clinging to the side of the boat, wearing a life jacket.

A second man has not been located.

Missing is 45-year-old David Tuttle of Lowville, the brother of Lewis County Emergency Services Coordinator Mark Tuttle.

According to Stockman, Tuttle was not able to grab the overturned boat and he eventually drifted out of sight. Stockman told the coast guard Tuttle was wearing his life jacket when the boat overturned.

The coast guard found that life jacket and Tuttle's hat around 10 a.m., about 500 yards from the boat.

Stockman was treated at Samaratian Medical Center for hypothermia and released.

The coast guard is joined in their search for Tuttle by the Canadian Coast Guard, Royal Canadian Air Force, State Police, Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, and the Jefferson County STAR team.

The search continued until dark Saturday, before being suspended for the night. Crews will resume the effort Sunday morning.
