Search Teams Use Sonar To Look For Missing Man

Authorities have taken the boats out of the water and ended Friday's water search for a man missing in the Black River.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department used a boat equipped with sonar to look for the man Friday morning.

The search area remained concentrated around the boat launch off Eastern Boulevard where the man was last seen.

"Due to the temperature of the water, it probably will take, I'm only estimating, at least 8 to 10 days before he surfaces. If he's not caught up on something," said Undersheriff Paul Trudeau.

Periodic shoreline searches continued Friday afternoon.

The man went missing Monday evening following a canoe accident.

The woman who was with him was rescued by fishermen who spotted both of them clinging to the overturned canoe.

Neither person was wearing a life jacket.

Authorities still haven't released the names of the victims on request of the family.
