"Seaway Sailing Clayton" to be Bigger, Better Than Before

Final preparations are underway ahead of the upcoming "Sailing Seaway Clayton" event, scheduled for June 14-17.

Now in its second season, this weekend's festivities will begin Thursday evening with the arrival of the Canadian tall ship Fair Jeanne.

Last year's event, which featured a visit from - and free tours aboard - the tall ship Lynx, drew about 5,000 people to the community.

This year's event is likely to attract an even bigger crowd, thanks to the addition of Dock Dog's "Seaway Splash". It's a high flying dog competition, open to anyone, that brings in entrants from across north america. (Click here for details on the competition and to register your dog.)

Add live music and plenty of vendors and this year's "Sailing Seaway Clayton" should have something for everyone:

"This is something that's very community oriented," said event coordinator Mike Folsom. "We want to put people in downtown Clayton."

"We chose this weekend to coincide with the Food and Wine Festival so that now we have even more stuff going on in Clayton, giving people to come to town, and we hope that at the end of the day will help the local businesses," he explained.

The festivities will officially kick off at 9 a.m. Friday. And, of course, free tours of the Fair Jeanne will be available all weekend.

There's even a special father's day gift for the first 50 dads to tour the ship Sunday June 17th.

You can learn more about this weekend's activities and events on the Sailing Seaway Clayton website.
