Senator Gillibrand Hopes Veterans Will Get Jobs At MetalCraft Marine

It's a success story in north country manufacturing and it hosted another visit from a politician Thursday.

New York's junior U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand toured MetalCraft Marine in Cape Vincent.

The Canadian-based company builds high-speed patrol and search and rescue boats.

The Democratic senator hopes some military veterans will end up with some of the new jobs the company is creating.

"The fact that you've launched this apprenticeship program is fantastic because it would give any young vet with all the great skills they learned in the military the training they need to have a new profession and one that I bet they would really enjoy," said Gillibrand.

Right now MetalCraft Marine has a $10 million contract to build patrol boats for the U.S. Coast Guard.

Company officials hope to grow their workforce to about 100 employees.
