Senators Make Beer Wager On Super Bowl Outcome

Wagers on the Super Bowl seem to be gearing up among elected officials.

On the heels of a bet between the New York and Massachusettes governors, the Democratic senators from New York and New Hampshire are betting some of their states' finest craft brews on the outcome of Sunday's game.

If the New England Patriots prevail, New York Sen. Charles Schumer will buy New Hampshire's Smuttynose beer for every member of the Senate. If the New York Giants win, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen must offer her colleagues beer from six New York breweries - Brown's, Brooklyn, Blue Point, Saranac, Captain Lawrence and Ithaca.

Schumer used the occasion of the friendly wager Tuesday to tout his "I Love NY Brew" campaign.

He's pushing to expand New York brewers' market share so that they can grow their business and hire more employees. The industry currently supports nearly 60,000 New York jobs.
