Simao Hopes To Lure Grocery Store To Watertown's East Side

Tools

There's been some action on Watertown's east side and 7 News has learned it's part of an effort to lure a grocery store to that side of town.

Crews are clearing the property off State Sreet that surrounds Carl's Furniture and Pizza Hut, cutting trees and pulling stumps.

Developer P.J. Simao is paying for the work. Simao owns adjacent property and has an option to buy the land from current owners Vogel Properties of New Hartford.

Simao says he hopes to bring in a grocery store by marketing the property through different brokers after he cleans it up.

Simao says he's not promising anything, but is trying because there's a demand for a grocery store in that part of the city.

The building that Carl's Furniture is now in was once home to an A&P grocery store.
