A Watertown city council member is speaking out against the hay bales at the Thompson Park sledding hill.
Councilman Jeff Smith says the bales at the bottom of the hill are dangerous.
The hay was put up to keep people from crashing into the stone fence behind it, but Smith says the bales can end up doing more harm than good.
"Those things are like a concrete wall," he said. "They're not a barrier."
"If anything, they're probably more dangerous being there than not being there, in my professional opinion," Smith said
"At this point, I always teach the kids to jump off the sleds before they even come close to the hay bales, anyways," said Brent Talbot, who was sledding with his family.
Smith says he would like to see a reusable net used instead of the bales.
