Smoke-Filled House Greets Kids Home From School
A group of kids came home to a smoke-filled house in the town of Hounsfield Tuesday.
They were returning home from school when they saw smoke and called the fire department.
Officials say a lack of oxygen suffocated the flames shortly after the fire started, although it did leave much of the house charred inside.
No one was hurt, but the family's cat was overcome by smoke.
"A small cat did have some smoke inhalation," said Sackets Harbor Fire Chief David Woodkirk.
"We gave the cat oxygen and it seems like the cat's going to be fine."
Officials say the cause is unknown.
