Snowmobile Association To Sledders: Be Patient


It's that time of year again - snowmobile season is upon us.

Trails in our part of the state are beginning to open.

Especially after the mild winter we saw last year, many riders are chomping at the bit to get going.

But the New York State Snowmobile Association says "not so fast".

It's up to the local snowmobile clubs to officially open the trails in their areas once there's enough snow.

For one thing, it's about respect for landowners who allow trails to cross their property.

For another, it's a serious safety issue.

"Before the groomers from the clubs can go out and level them off and make them safe, riders should be aware that there could be hidden object underneath that fresh snow," Jim Rolf, trail coordinator New York State Snowmobile Association.

Riders need to check with their local club to see which trails are open.
