Social Security Phone Scam Targets ElderlySt. Lawrence County sheriff deputies are warning people about a telephone scam targeting the elderly. Deputies say scammers ask for the person's income and social security number. Then they tell the person that he or she may be eligible for additional social security benefits. Police say people should never give personal information, especially their social security numbers, over the phone.
