Social Security Phone Scam Targets Elderly
St. Lawrence County sheriff deputies are warning people about a telephone scam targeting the elderly.
Deputies say scammers ask for the person's income and social security number.
Then they tell the person that he or she may be eligible for additional social security benefits.
Police say people should never give personal information, especially their social security numbers, over the phone.
Anyone who thinks they might have been a victim of this or similar scams are asked to call the local state Attorney General's office at 315-785-2444.
