Some EJ Noble Employees Off Work Until Lab Reopens

Around 70 of EJ Noble Hospital's 240 or so employees are being told not to report to work Monday.

This after the state closed down the hospital's laboratory, essentially shutting down its emergency room, operating room, and acute care operations until further notice. (Click here to read our earlier report)

The people who work in those departments will not be paid for the time off, unless they choose to use their personal or vacation days.

"It's a difficult situation, and hopefully we can get issues corrected as soon as possible," said Chuck Canole, EJ Noble Hospital CEO.

The lab will remain closed, and those 70 employees off work, until a plan to correct the issues that caused the lab's closure is submitted to, and approved by, the state Department of Health.

Hospital officials say they hope the process can be completed within the next 30 days.

But in the mean time, they stress that many ancillary services in a number of departments are available including respiratory therapy, radiology, and MRI, as well as physical therapy for nursing home patients.

The nursing home remains open, as do all satellite clinics and all doctors offices, which are offering extended open hours until the lab reopens.

Community members are encouraged to call the hospital if they have questions and to make appointments.
