Sources: Local Candidate Offered Ogdensburg Manager Job

Ogdensburg city councilors have apparently decided unofficially on who the next city manager will be and are currently in the process of negotiating a contract.

7 News has learned that a local candidate has been offered the job but no contract has been signed.

The city received 40 applications for the city manager's job, left vacant with the termination in January of former city manager Arthur Sciorra.

Five people have been interviewed by the consulting firm hired by the city.

Sources tell 7 News that one of those individuals, 66 year old John Pinkerton of Ogdensburg, is the main finalist for the job.

Mayor William Nelson refused to confirm whether Pinkerton would be named to the city manager's post but says the process is moving forward.

"We'll make some changes to the charter in that the previous charter indicated that the manager served an indefinite term and the council felt that we'd like to have that changed to that the manager serves at the will of the council," said Nelson.

The city council will hold a public hearing September 10 on proposed changes to the city charter.

Pinkerton did not return our calls for comment.
