Soybean Crop Destroyed In Silo Fire

Thousands of dollars worth of soybeans were destroyed Monday in a silo fire at Murrock Farms in Pamelia, just outside of Watertown.

Firefighters were called to the scene at around 9:30 a.m.

Putting the fire out was a long process.

"We've had to open up the side of the silo to start emptying the soybeans out that are burning inside to access it and the farmer is trying to salvage some of as he can. It's very expensive," said North Pole Fire Chief Joe Wargo.

Firefighters said this silo fire was safer to fight than many, because the owner had taken steps to make sure the silo had enough air circulating inside it.

There were no injuries.
