Speaker Encourages Tolerance To Commemorate MLK Day

Bullying can take a terrible toll, whether in school or on college campuses, making victims of bullying live in an environment of fear and intimidation.

Bloomsburg University faculty member Brian Johnson was on the Clarkson University campus Monday to mark Martin Luther King Day.

Even in the face of intimidation, Johnson said, King remained committed to his dream.

Johnson says cyberbullying is also becoming a growing problem that needs to be silenced.

He urges witnesses to stand up for those being harassed or bullied.

"Unfortunately, we have issues in our country and our culture, where if you're not like me, you don't look liker me, love like me, worship like me - that makes you different and different means bad," Johnson said.

"I think what we've got to work on is learning to see similarity, commonality and, most of all, seeing the humanity in every single person that we meet, regardless of whether they agree with us or not," he said.

Johnson also delivered Monday night's keynote address as part of Clarkson's Martin Luther King Day events.
