St. Lawrence County Creates Natural Disaster Plan

Tools

St. Lawrence County is creating a plan to deal with natural disasters before they happen.

Officials want to make sure they're prepared for the worst - a severe wind storm, flooding or anything that might cause damage to people or property.

This plan would help lessen the impact and pave the way for federal grants.

"We could do things like increasing the size of culverts or strengthening the stream banks and that kind of thing so that when the rains hit, your house doesn't get flooded, your town doesn't get flooded, the street doesn't flood out," said county Emergency Services Director Joseph Gilbert.

The public can weigh in on the plan by attending a meeting at the Wanakena Ranger School at 6 p.m. Monday.

Other sessions are planned at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Gouverneur fire station and at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Potsdam Civic Center.
