St. Lawrence County Property Taxes To Jump 13.4%

Property owners in St. Lawrence County will see their taxes go up 13.4 percent next year.

Lawmakers formally adopted the county budget Monday night.

That means a property owner with a home assessed at $100,000 will pay $109 dollars more in county taxes.

Lawmakers trimmed spending to bring the projected increase down from its original 19 percent.

The budget eliminates 50 jobs from the county payroll.

Legislature chair Sallie Brothers says the tax hike is the result of a combination of state-mandated costs and a lack of county revenue.
