State Officials Hold 'Yogurt Summit'

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says New York state can become the top yogurt producer in the nation, if not the world.

State officials were meeting with farmers and yogurt producers Wednesday during a so-called yogurt summit in Albany to find ways to revise regulations and any other obstacles to building the growing food fad of Greek-style yogurt.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he wants to go beyond the "endless dialogue" of talking about helping business and get into the game of fostering trade.

Making yogurt, especially the Greek style, has become big business in upstate New York in recent years.

Opponents of shale gas drilling plan to protest outside the event wearing cow suits. They say the natural gas industry will drive away dairy business.
