State Seeks to Lease Parking From Watertown

Parking in downtown Watertown is at a premium to begin with. Next month, it's likely going to get a whole lot tighter.

Repair work begins on the parking garage at the Dulles State Office Building June 1st, and 150 state workers will be forced to find parking elsewhere while the garage is closed.

The state Office of General Services' solution: renting 150 parking spaces from the city of Watertown.

City Council will discuss that request when it meets Monday night, including the question of how much it would charge for the spots.

When the State Office Building garage was last renovated in the mid-90s, the city leased out about 200 spaces in the stone street lot at a rate of $15 dollars per space each month.

Adjusted for inflation, that's nearly $25 a space today.
