State Wants To Change Who Runs Privateers' Concessions

Watertown city leaders were dealt a surprise problem Tuesday night.

It has to do with the Thousand Islands Privateers and the food and drinks sold at the team's games.

Officials say the state has a problem with the way concessions are run at the games.

Right now, the city takes care of the food, while an outside business, Savory Downtown, handles drinks, including alcohol.

The state would like to see Savory take over all concessions.

"After the license has been issued, suddenly says that Savory should be in charge of popcorn and pizza and drink sales," said Councilman Jeff Smith.

"I mean, it's crazy," he said.

The city has to act fast. Savory's temporary liquor license expires on February 1.

Because of the new issue, city lawmakers tabled they're approval of a new agreement with the Privateers.
