State's Financial Challenges Continue In 2012

The new year will bring new challenges for the state of New York.

Legislators in Albany faced daunting financial difficulties this year and expect more of the same in 2012.

State Sen. Joe Griffo says the state deficit could be as high as $2 billion in the new year and some tough decisions will have to be made. Again.

"The real overriding mission and objective here is to continue to try to regrow our economy, to reinvigorate the economy, not only here in the north country , but across the entire state," Griffo said.

"It's going to take a lot of effort and we're facing some serious challenges because of the national economy and the slowdown that continues there."

Lawmakers will find out just how much trouble the state is in financially when the governor delivers his state of the state address on January 4.
