Steak Theft Leads To Charges For Syracuse Man

In what was originally reported to police as an armed robbery, a Syracuse man was arrested Friday morning after he allegedly stole meat from a Watertown grocery store.

Watertown police say 31 year old Brandon Johnson was allegedly observed shoplifting at the Great American on State Street.

As he was leaving the store, employees took a bag from Johnson containing steak and steak marinade.

Police say he refused to stop and an employee followed him to Ryan's Jet Gas, where he allegedly brandished a handgun and demanded the employee stop following him.

Police were called and apprehended Johnson at the corner of Boyd and South Hamilton streets.

Police say the handgun they found in his jacket pocket was a BB pistol.

Johnson was charged with petit larceny and menacing. He was scheduled for arraignment Friday.
