Steve Fisher Returning As General Brown Coach
Steve Fisher, who coached the General Brown football team for 43 years, is returning to the job.
Fisher told 7 News sports director Mel Busler Thursday that he will resume coaching duties this fall, taking over from Tom Frears, who was his assistant and who has been head coach for the last three years. Frears has decided to step down, Busler reports.
"I'm really excited," Fisher said.
Before ending his tenure at General Brown in 2009, Fisher had a record of 255 wins, including four Section 3 titles.
After leaving General Brown, Fisher spent a year as head coach at Alexandria and at Thousand Islands.
Frears took General Brown to the state finals in his first year as head coach, and has won three straight Class C north championships.
The team faces a rebuilding year this year with the loss of 17 seniors.
Fisher said his decision to return to General Brown pleases one person in particular - his wife.
Alice Fisher said she has "missed football the last couple of years."
This fall, she promised, "I'll be on the sidelines again."
