The transition from high school to college can be one of the biggest challenges in a young person's life.

It's also a time for making new friends and preparing for a lifelong career.

Cars were being unpacked and dorm rooms were being arranged in a bustle of activity Friday as more than 760 first-year students began arriving at Clarkson University for their first taste of college life.

This year's incoming class comes from 29 states, 10 countries and two Canadian provinces.

University officials say 3 percent of the Class of 2017 are international first-year students, many of them traveling great distances to Potsdam, coming from Saudi Arabia, China, Finland and Vietnam.
