Students Honor Veterans In Special Ceremony
Students at Ohio Street Elementary School in Watertown offered a somber and heartfelt tribute to the nation's veterans.
The children read a poem and sang songs as active fort drum troops and local veterans looked on.
Fort Drum soldier Jeff Evans joined his daughter Montana at a reception following the ceremony.
"I'm glad to see that the community is involved and they're taking part in ceremonies to respect the military and show them that they support us," Evans said.
"I'm very excited as a retired teacher to see all these children paying such respect and honor," Patricia Taylor said.
The children prepared the ceremony for several weeks and have also been learning what it means to be a veteran andserve the country.
It seems the message sank in.
"Just thanks 'cause you did a lot for us," one student said.
"Thank you for letting us be free," said second grader Corey Decker.
At the end of the ceremony all of the children got a chance to give veterans a loud "Thank you!"
