A 44 year old Potsdam woman was charged with vehicular manslaughter after an accident on May Road Saturday night in which a 59 year old woman was killed.

Potsdam police said Laurel L. Randall was behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck and killed Fuli Wu, a 59 year old woman from China who was visiting relatives in the Potsdam area.

The accident happened near the intersection of May and Haggerty roads just after 8:30 pm.

Police said in a statement Sunday morning that they found the vehicle they think was involved concealed in a garage on Missouri Avenue.

Randall was charged with first degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, tampering with physical evidence, first offsense driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated, and sixth degree conspiracy.

Police said Randall's blood alcohol content was .21 percent.

Her passenger, Stephen E. Coates, 48, of Potsdam, charged with tampering with physical evidence and sixth degree conspiracy. Coates was ordered held on $3,000 bail.

Coroner June Wood responded to Canton Potsdam Hospital and ordered an autopsy which will be performed at a later date.
