Superintendent: TI Schools Facing Severe Loss Of State FundingThe Thousand Islands school district is facing big cutbacks in money from New York. As a result, the superintendent is going to Albany, hoping to bring back answers for a meeting with the public this week. Superintendent Joe Menard and LaFargeville Superintendent Sue Whitney were going to Albany Wednesday to meet with the state assembly's Ways and Means Committee. It's projected Thousand Islands will see a $2.6 million shortfall for 2011-2012. Menard hopes to tell state lawmakers what state cuts mean to small, rural school districts. Then he'll bring back information for a public meeting on Thursday. That meeting will be at 6 p.m. at the middle school-high school library. Menard visited the 7 News studio for an extensive look at the district's budget situation. Click on the picture for the full interview. Most Popular |
