January is National Skating Month and folks in Clayton took to the ice Monday to celebrate.

It was the Thousand Islands Community Day on Ice, which featured a "Celebrity versus Community" hockey scrimmage in the morning, followed by a Rock and Skate party.

The turnout was so good, this could turn into a yearly event.

"People have said, 'Are you going to do this again next year?' The hockey game this morning - the community team, the celebrity team, everybody had a great time. The girls are looking forward to their exhibition later, and the kids are having a blast during the Rock and Skate," said Juliann Schindler, event organizer.

"I like it because I get to skate with all my friends, and I do figure skating, so I like practicing more," said Karissa Golkey, who took to the ice during the Rock and Skate party.

Monday's Rock and Skate party was DJed by 7 News' very own Mel Busler.
