Third Person Charged In Canton Van Theft

With the arrest of a third person, police have closed their investigation into the theft of a Service Master van in Canton in early April.

St. Lawrence County sheriff deputies charged 26 year old James Papineau Jr. of Hogansburg with third degree grand larceny.

Previously charged were 23 year old Michael Moolick and 21 year old Frederick Del Prete, both students at SUNY Canton.

Police say the van was stolen from the village of Canton on April 5 and taken for a joy ride before it crashed into a utility pole on the Irish Settlement Road outside of town.

All three suspects fled the scene.

Papineau was arraigned in town of Pierrepont court and sent to jail on $10,000 cash bail.
