Three Displaced By Watertown House Fire

Three people in Watertown are without a home at least for the time being, after a fire damaged their duplex on Central Street early Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the home at 221 Central Street for a report of an outdoor fire.

When they arrived, the fire was on the back porch of the house and spreading into the building.

Crews were able to quickly knock the flames down - despite the added challenge caused by the weather:

"It's kind of difficult this time of year with the high heat, high humidity, the amount of work exertion that they have to go through, they get dehydrated quickly," said Watertown City Fire Chief Dale Herman.

"So we have to try to rotate crews as quickly as we can, to keep hydrated, replenish those fluids, so we don't end up with any heat-related injuries on them," he said.

No injuries were reported from this fire.

However, the damage to the two apartments has made them unusable, at least for now.

The Red Cross is being called in to help the displaced residents find other temporary housing.
