Watertown Arena Renovations Move Forward

Plans to renovate Watertown's municipal arena are moving forward.

Stantec, the Rochester-based design firm working on the project, met with city officials Thursday at city hall. As the design looks now, 40 feet will be added on to the front of the building, and a two story lobby will be built there. There will be more office space, more bathrooms, new lighting and other changes.

Thursday's meeting was called to update city officials and work through a few issues.

"One of the issues is we're trying to decide where the best place will be to put the player boxes for the hockey teams," said Erin Gardner, who runs the city's parks and recreation department.

City officials have set aside  dollars for the project. Groundbreaking is scheduled for the first of January.

"Once we're done with this review today, we're gonna walk outta here, my goal, is to have answers to all of the questions associated with this particular schematic design," said Jeri Picket, a Stantec project manager.

Work on the design is expected to take the next six to eight weeks. The city council should get to see the design later this fall. Expected project completion is September 2015.
