Gouverneur Man Dead In Chaumont Accident

A Gouverneur man was killed Thursday afternoon in Chaumont in an accident involving a wood chipper.

Ronald C. Watson, 39, was working on Water Street "grinding a stump when he became pinned between the operator's protective shield and an adjacent building," according to a statement from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

Watson was an employee of Ryan's Tree Service. The accident happened at 3:15 pm.

A deputy sheriff was one of several people who freed Watson.

The Jefferson County Medical Examiner's office and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration are helping the sheriff's department with the investigation.
