Thursday's Weather Made For A Rough Ride
Weather-wise, Thursday was pretty rough in the north country.
Rain quickly changed to snow, leaving drivers and pedestrians slipping and sliding.
No serious accidents were reported, but a section of Route 81 south of Watertown was closed for about an hour.
Meanwhile, damaging winds tore off a section of roof flashing on a vacant building on Pierrepont Avenue in Potsdam owned by Clarkson University. The building once housed the university's center for liberal studies.
On the Grasse River in Russell, a developing ice jam caused the river to spill over its banks, causing some minor flooding.
Water was high enough to lap at the edge of Pestle Street Road.
In Massena, the strong wind gusts didn't cause any serious damage, but combined with driving snow pellets did make for difficult times on the road for both motorists and pedestrians.
