A two year old boy was airlifted to a Syracuse hospital after suffering burns at Wellesley Island State Park.

It happened early Tuesday afternoon at a camp in what's known as "H Area" of the park.

That's according to Kevin Kieff, director of the Thousand Islands Region of the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Kieff said the child tripped on a piece of firewood and fell forward into a day-old bed of coals.

The toddler suffered burns to a forearm.

Kieff said the boy's injuries are believed to be non life-threatening.
