Tomaselli Admits to Lying About "Small Things"

It's not all a lie.

"All I've lied about is small things," says Zach Tomaselli.

North Country native Zach Tomaselli admits emails he sent the Syracuse Post Standard last month were altered.

Tomaselli, who accuses former Syracuse University assistant men's basketball head coach Bernie Fine of molesting him in January of 2002, says he forged the emails in order to gain public support.

"I just tried to exaggerate support that I had, hoping that would be reported. Hoping that I would not have to deal with the painful hate mail that I get every morning," says Tomaselli.

One email altered was from a Syracuse Police detective. The other doctored email came from Copenhagen superintendent Scott Connell.

The original email indicated Tomaselli was in school the day he claims to have been in Pittsburgh with Fine. The former Copenhagen Central student says he added one line before hitting send.

"I put in parentheses, 'not that that means anything,' to kind of show he supports me," says Tomaselli.

Tomaselli says authorities have told him school records aren't always accurate.  He says that's  the reason for adding the line.

Tomaselli has dropped a civil suit in Pittsburgh against Fine, for now. According to Tomaselli, dropping the civil side of the case shows his intentions.

"There's no motive for me to lie because I'm not going to be making any money off of it because I dropped the civil charge," says Tomaselli.

Despite other reports, Tomaselli says he has not asked for the federal investigation to stop.

"I believe once the Feds release all the information they have, people are going to be pretty shocked," says Tomaselli.

Tomaselli himself is set to be sentenced in Maine next month after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a thirteen year old boy for two years.
