Victims Identified In Fatal Accident Near Copenhagen

A 71 year old Lowville man is dead following a crash between a car and a pickup truck near Copenhagen Wednesday morning.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Department said Perry Steria died at the scene.

Officials said Steria was driving on Route 12 in the town of Harrisburg when he tried to stop for a vehicle which was turning off the road.

Steria lost control of his car and skidded into the oncoming lane and into the path of the pickup.

"The vehicle was occupied by two people, the two people in the pickup truck," Undersheriff Jim Monnat said. "The car, the two people in that sustained some severe injuries. The passenger was transported by helicopter and the operator of the car was deceased."

The crash happened around 9 a.m.

The car's female passenger, 64 year old Beth Steria of Lowville, was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

She was listed in serious condition Thursday afternoon.

The man and woman in the pickup, 56 year old Thomas Vincent and 59 year old Ann Vincent of Brownville, were taken to the Lewis County General Hospital in Lowville.

The Vincents were treated for their injuries and released.

Officials are blaming the crash on icy roads.
