All Samantha Willard wanted was a little more room.

With a baby due later this month, her family of five is growing, and living in a cramped, two bedroom trailer on Route 11B just outside of Potsdam isn't cutting it.

Samantha and husband Steven sleep in the living room. There is no room for a crib.

So Samantha considered herself lucky when she found an ad on craigslist for a big, five bedroom trailer. Willard contacted the seller and paid a $20,000 down payment for the trailer.

"$20,0000, that's our life savings," Samantha said. "Money is short. We could have lived off that for the winter."

The seller, a man who identified himself as Patrick Henry, promised to deliver the trailer last week. He said it was coming from the Albany area. He even dropped off cinder blocks for the set-up. He called to say the trailer was on the way, and then...nothing.

Willard has called Henry every day since, but she said he hasn't picked up.

We called Patrick Henry using the phone number Samantha gave us. He didn't pick up or return our messages.

"None of it makes sense, he seemed like a decent guy," Samantha said.

7 News archives show a man named Patrick Henry was arrested by state police in January for taking $11,000 for a mobile home that he allegedly did not deliver.

Samantha Willard hopes she is wrong to suspect her money is gone, wrong to suspect she's been taken. She plans to keep calling Henry's number.

"I'm still hoping for my house. I'm hoping he's not scamming us."

Update Thursday, 12.5.12:

Patrick Henry called 7 News late Wednesday morning to explain that he had not delivered the trailer because the Willards had not provided a concrete pad for it. After a series of telephone calls involving Henry, Samantha and 7 News, it appeared that Henry has agreed to refund some money to Samantha Friday, though the exact dollar amount remains in dispute.
