Social Services Office Evacuated

The Department of Social Services office in Canton was closed Tuesday afternoon, after an odor forced everyone out of the building.

The evacuation took place at 10 a.m., 7 News reporter John Friot reports.

The building - at 6 Judson Street - was evacuated after a worker reported smelling fumes in the basement, according to Joe Gilbert, emergency services director.

The smell was enough to nauseate a handful of employees, though no one required treatment or hospitalization.

Atlantic Testing was called in to take air samples, while the Canton fire department aired out the building.

Anyone with an appointment today is asked to call 379-2111 to reschedule. Officials said they anticipate the building will re-open Wednesday.
