Tuition To Rise At Jefferson Community College

It looks like students at Jefferson Community College will be paying a little more to attend school in the fall.

It could cost $48 per semester more for full-time students under JCC's proposed budget.

That would push the total cost per semester to close to $1,900.

The school will also ask Jefferson County lawmakers for just over $150,000 more in aid.

JCC President Dr. Carole McCoy says the proposed increases help offset the lack of state aid the college receives.

"We did not want to ask for...the same size increase from the county and from our students, but we just could not balance the budget without something from them," she said.

County legislators are expected to hear about the school's proposed budget at a meeting next week.

A ruling on whether or not the county will kick in extra aid is not expected until early July.
