Turner Named New Carthage School Superintendent

There's a new superintendent at Carthage Central School.

Board of education President Michael Chevier says Monday night's vote was unanimous for Pete Turner.

He's currently superintendent at Northeastern Clinton Central School District near Plattsburgh.

Turner is no stranger to the area.

He spent 18 years in the Carthage district as a teacher and then high school principal before leaving for his current job.

"I know things have changed, but I think the core values of the district are the same. I will try to capitalize on running an efficient district where people are valued and trusted," said Turner.

Turner says he's still working out a starting date, but would like to begin work at Carthage by July 1.

In the meantime, his first priority is house hunting, a job that will start as early as this weekend.

Chevier says the board feels Turner is the best match for the district.

The board of education had narrowed its search down to Turner and Rick Moore, who is superintendent of Belleville Henderson Central School.
